The Medical Care Training Course is an advanced maritime safety program designed to prepare seafarers to handle medical emergencies and provide comprehensive medical care onboard ships. It is a requirement under the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Regulation VI/4 and aligns with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Course 1.15. This course builds upon the foundational knowledge provided in Medical First Aid Training and is tailored for individuals designated as responsible for medical care on vessels, particularly those on long voyages or operating in remote areas.
Participants acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in medical diagnostics, emergency treatment, and patient management. With the unique challenges of maritime operations—limited access to shore-based facilities, remote locations, and confined living conditions—trained medical personnel are indispensable. This course equips seafarers to use on-board medical resources, interact with tele medical assistance services (TMAS), and manage a broad spectrum of medical conditions, from routine ailments to life-threatening emergencies.
